Exceeds Advertised Dimensions Oct 07, 2010
By WilliWu I purchased the Alpha 22922 based on its advertised dimensions of 22" x 14" x 9" and was surprised to discover that the length actually measures 23-1/2". This puts it over the published limits of most domestic airlines and puts you at the mercy of the flight crews. While they have yet to stop me from carrying it onboard, it almost always has to be turned sidewise to fit in the overhead*, so that I am taking up far more than my share of the bin. Otherwise a great bag. If I had it to do over again, I would get Tumi's smaller Alpha 22020 (International) bag which holds almost as much and would make for less stressful boardings. Update: Tumi has updated their site to include the actual outside dimensions for all of their "carry-on" luggage. These are the dimensions that are used by the airlines and the FAA. Note that the "International" is the only Alpha option that meets airline and FAA limits. Both the 22922 and the "Continental", which is pushed as an alternative by many luggage stores, exceed limits. After being force-checked on a Delta flight, I finally bit the bullet and sprung for the Tumi International (22020) Tumi Alpha International 20" Zippered Expandable Carry On 22020. Quite a relief, not having to worry about fitting an oversized bag into the bin.
* The exceptions are the large center-isle aircraft(such as the Boeing 757-200)with three seats on either side of the isle. The three seats allow enough overhead bin depth to just accomodate this bag wheels-out.

Great, but doesnt fit all overhead bins Jun 12, 2011

Excellent bag, well thought out. High quality materials, good construction, and nice looking. Good pocket layout, there are two interior pockets that can either velcro to the interior walls of the bag, or lie flat on top of the packed case.
The big drawback is that it is too long for some overhead bins, on domestic flights (I dont care about international). AA MD80 and 737-800 were no problem, but any Southwest flight 737-700 it just didnt fit unless you go sideways-- which there isnt always room for. I want a bag that I *know* will fit no matter where i lie in the boarding process, so I returned this for the continental (which is shorter, but wider, and has the same packing capacity).

Broken in less than 1 year Jan 30, 2012
By Eric Brown I didn't realize this bag has a defect, the handle apparently breaks within a year on this 400 dollar bag. BEWARE! Their customer service is going to charge you to ship it to get it fixed and will even charge you for a repair that based on what I found online is actually a defect.
Love this bag! Apr 03, 2012
By Andrew R. Turner I resisted for years getting the ubiquitous black box. This one, however, has made me a believer. Not only has it fit in every overhead bin I've tried it in (about 10 plane trips so far), it has a really nice "sleeve" for the hanging bag portion of the bag--using it my clothes are far less wrinkled than with my regular hanging bag. Highly recommend this bag.
